Make a Difference to a Starfish

You hear growing up and are encouraged to “make a difference”.

However, you may wonder:

What can I do? What can I do to help the world? Honestly, the world is huge! There is so much that is wrong, that needs fixing. How can I make difference?

Well, take a look at this story:

The story that inspired the video goes something like this:

There was a man who liked to go walking along the beach every so often. One day as he walked along the beach he noticed it was littered with starfish, hundreds must have covered the sandy shore. As he walked on that morning, he noticed a figure in the distance. It seemed to be dancing. Taking an interest, the man moved forward on the beach only to discover that the dancing figure was that of a small boy.

The small boy was leaning down, picking up starfish, running to the ocean, and then throwing the starfish in. Back and forth he went picking up starfish after starfish.

As the man approached, he called out, ” Good morning, boy. May I ask what you’re doing?”

The little boy paused and replied, ” I’m throwing the starfish back into the ocean. The tide is going away, and if I don’t, they’ll die”.

“But,” the man exclaimed, ” there must be thousands of starfish on this beach. You can’t possibly make a difference.”

The boy just leaned down and picked up another starfish. He turned to the ocean and threw the starfish. As the starfish hit the water, the boy turned to man and said, ” I made a huge difference to that one.”

The End

I came across this story while exploring youtube, and I fell in love with it. How moving is that story!? Listen, you can make a difference, even if it just for one person. Does that one difference make it any less important? If you don’t take the opportunity to make that one difference in the world or that person’s life, who will?

You can impact, inspire, encourage, motivate….

You can make a difference. πŸ™‚
