Did You Know…

…human trafficking happens in America.

What is sex trafficking? Human trafficking or sex trafficking is, as stated by wikipedia, ” the trade in humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labor or for the extraction of organs or tissues, including surrogacy and ova removal.” As explained by Rapha House, an organization that fights against human trafficking, it is the “illegal trade in human beings for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation or forced labor; a modern day form of slavery”. Slavery is not a past issue, no. It happens today all around the world, including in the U. S. A. It is estimated that nearly 2.5 million people from 127 different countries are trafficked each year, and half of those are children.

This is an excellent video/spoken word that gives a glimpse of the seriousness: http://youtu.be/tS3VDKI9Hg0 . I strongly suggest taking the time to check the video out, research this, and check out Rapha House (http://www.raphahouse.org/).

I know how it is; how easy and simple it is to get caught up in our world, unaware of the issues surrounding us. Probably because there are so many issues they all just blur together and fall into just buzz behind our ears. And even knowing, what do we do? Do we act at all? I’ve friends who do, and they inspire me so much. I’ve friends who go across seas, tackle inner city missions, and have even worked with Rapha House. I even have a friend right now putting on an event to bring some awareness and take up a love offering for action against human trafficking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv67RZE5NFw

I realize we all have different hearts passionate about different things, but I believe we need to take a double-check to make sure we are open, willing, and ready to support those other passions. What issues do you care about? What issue moves your heart to action?

Let me know =]
